Alexander Sutton
Generation 7
Alexander Sutton (born 1786, died December 30, 1853) the second son of Jonathan and his first wife Mary Irvin, was born at Sutton Springs. He married, before 1810, to Mary Knox Candleish (b. 1785, d. Oct. 26, 1869), daughter of Alexander Candleish of York Co. S.C.. Since his older brother remained at the farm at Sutton Springs, he made his home on a farm in the northwest section of Fort Mill near Flint Hill Cemetary
Alexander Sutton had the following children with his wife Mary:
1. Jonathan Sutton born Feb 10, 1806, died Apr 28, 1873, Moved to Lumpkin Co., GA., before 1837. Married Emily Adeline Brown (born 1820, died 1879). They left descendants in Georgia.

m. Susan Burton (d/o William Burton & Mary Pettus), who lived near the Blankenship place in Gold Hill community of York County, S.C.. Moved to Louisiana. Issue:

d. Mary Sutton (These four children lived near New Orleans)
3. Stephen P. Sutton
(b. Nov. 13, 1813, d. Mar 18, 1903) m. Mariah Pettus (b. Dec. 11, 1808, d. Mar. 19, 1886) daughter of William and Mary Pettus. Issue:
a. Alexander Candlish Sutton (b. Nov. 17, 1843, d. Dec. 24, 1885)
b. John Davis M.L. Sutton (b. 1846)
c. Mary Pettus Sutton born 1848, died 1918. married James P. Epps (b. 1842, d. 1925)
4. Alexander C. Sutton (b. 1815, d. May 27, 1898) m. Eliza Partlow (“Fat Granny” b. 1820, d. Aug. 1910) (of whom more).
5. John C. Sutton (b. 1811, d. 1834)
6. William Mortimer Sutton (born Mar. 5, 1820 and died Oct. 2, 1858) married Ann Dillard Pettus(d/o Stephen Pettus & Eliza Jane Reid). Lived at the old Pettus place, six miles north of Fort Mill, S.C. and who ran the old gold mine on Gold Mine Road. Issue:

d. William Mortimer Sutton, Jr. born 1858. moved to Texas

m. Sarah E. Fuller (Thal Fuller’s sister), who lived at the old Fuller place, 2 3/4 miles west of Fort Mill, S.C.. Issue:
a. Amanda Jane Sutton, she was living in Tennessee when last heard from.
